hooker headers - Uninstall?!

The kid before me that had the car put the header bolts in crooked and dropped a socket inside the header when he installed the headers like a moron and left it in. Im trying to take the passenger side header out, i got all the bolts out and its moving around freely but when i try to lift them out, the rear part of the header gets caught between the heater core and head. I took out the alternator already, is there any other tips or tricks that will make it get past that point? Should i pull off the valve cover or loosen up the heater core?

Read this http://www.z28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=100225. The method described will allow for more room on the passengers side. Worked great for me :):).

pull the bolt out of passenger side motor mount and jack up that side of the motor

where should i place the jack to jack up that side of the motor?

You don't have to pull the header to get the socket out of there, I've dropped one many times and all I had to do was put a magnet between all of the tubes down into the collector and it picked it right up.

Hookers usually go out through the bottom. If you really have to pull it all the way out, I'd suggest jacking the car up as high as you can and dropping it out...

im at my uncles dealership and its on a lift high in the air, but it wont come out unless i jack the motor up pretty high, instead of taking it out though im gonna try to jack the passengers side motor up as high as i can and see if i can fool around with the threads that way and the header will be out of the way

I took the valve cover off and it freed up room enough for my to pull it out.

you were able to pull long tubes up by just taking the valve cover gasket off?
