Hooker CatBack performance?
Hooker CatBack performance?
I am looking around for a new exhaust, looking for good sound and performance, at a decent price. Borla is too damn exspensive. But i've kept my eye on the Hooker CatBack. Whats the performance gains on it like? And does it sound good?
Another vote for the Hooker here, just like everyone says it is quiet at idle and screams at WOT, even with my headers and !cat if is quiet until I get on it. Performance gains are difficult to judge without actually dynoing or track results and I have not seen either where adding a Hooker cat back was the only mod. But the SOTP meter says you get some gains.
Just like everybody has said, quiet at idle and it sounds mean when you get on it. I loved my hooker. The performance gains from this catback are actually some the highest out there. From the graphs I have seen it comes close to the top two or three for gains. Only down side is it is aluminium, so it will rust. I had mine on the car for about a year and it was looking pretty bad, but the winter up here in Ohio took its toll on it.

I have heard hooker on a 95LT1 before and it sounds slightly louder then the stock catback. The actual sound is almost identical to the stock GM muffler. Performance for buck its pretty ok. It right in the middle of everything out there. Better then flowmaster, worse the borla. Its deffinatly a bargain. I wuold not get it though.

Does anyone else agree, I'm looking for a great sounding muffler but not one that can be compared to the stock one.
I've had my Hooker cat-back for over 3yrs. It's great. A little perfirmance gain, but the sound alone is worth the $$. Quiet at idle, loud when you get on it. Mature sounding. Mine is starting to show rust on it though.
Do a search on here for exhaust clips. I have heard them on here, and the muffler sounds bad (in a good way
). It's the only catback system I like the sound of, besides flowmaster of course. But it will out flow flowmaster. The only bad thing is I think the biggest inlets/outlets you can find for that muffler are 2.5". I would rather have 3" inlets/outlets. Buy it, you'll be happy, I promise.

i vote for hooker, i got it on my z28 and its a very intimidating sound, almost a fierce howl. people whip their neck around just to find out what made that sound, its awsome.
DEFINENTLY better than a stock muffler, not even close in sound or tone for that matter.
