Arrow High Torque Starter---

My new le2 package will be pushing a 11.8 : 1 compression ratio. Should I invest in a high torque starter or is the stocker going to be fine since we are pretty high CR already? Thanks ---

I personally wouldnt buy anything unless necessary. See how the stocker works, if it doesnt suffice buy an LT4.

I'm running a 396 w/ 12.2-1 compression and the stock GM starter works just fine.

Re: High Torque Starter---

my stocker on my 383 was fine...for a while. but it had 95k miles on it. i bought a lt1 stock replacement. when it fails i'm going with the lt4 corvette starter. they're smaller, have more torque and are cheaper...and you dont have to have a core.

Re: High Torque Starter---

For some reason my 11.2:1 383 ate/broke the cases on 3 stock LT1 style starters...I switched to the LT4 style and have been fine and it clears my Kooks stepped LTs...

My stocker is fine so far. I'm running 11.5:1 compression.

Fine as in it works, or does it sound strong pushing it over? I hate hearing it wind down and barely pushing it over, lol. My 327 is going through that with the "stock" style starter . and its only 10.5:1 ---

It's acting just as it did with the stock engine. I haven't noticed any change. It's been about a year since the swap.

Your 327's distributor cannot back timing off upon start-up. Whatever initial advance you have it set to for max performance (20*) is there when you start. A PCM can retard timing when the engine starts. For instance, my scanmaster shows 9* advance when I start.

Re: High Torque Starter---

I actually was told no more replacements on my stock replacement starter because I killed so many of them in a short time with my 12:1 LT1. I switched to the beefier LT4 and haven't had a problem since.
