High beams don't work

I've had my car since she was 23K miles old, and the high beams have never worked. Five years later, I think it's time to quit procrastinating and fix it. Any sugestions? When I pull back on the lever, it doesn't "click", and even if I hold it, they never come on. Thanks in advance!

You need to take the panels off under the steering wheel so you can get to the lower part of the column. The dimmer switch is located there. Move your lever and see if the rod to the switch is moving. The switch could possibly just need adjustment (the mounting holes are slotted) or need to be replaced. Don't disturb the position of the ignition switch that is held on by the same screws.
