Hey guys, I just bought an LT1...

Hey, hows it going guys? I haven't spent much time on this board, but now that I bought an LT1, I will have to take advantage of the information this site offers. I bought a 1997 Firebird Trans Am on Friday, August 1st. It is Silver and has T-Tops, Leather interior, power everything, a cd player, and MagnaFlow exhaust system. I am 18 and I've been saving up for a car like this for a long time, and I am paying for every cent of it. I still have to get used to the power, as it is slightly more powerful than my 3.1 V6 Here are some pictures of it:

So what CA smog legal mods would you recommend to start out with? I was looking at a K&N CAI, but it said that it won't work with Ram Air or TCS models Mine has have Traction Control, is this a problem? Would the SLP version give me the same gains?

I was also looking at Hooker Headers but it says they are for 94-95 Lt1's, is that correct? Is SLP my only choice for headers? Thanks a lot guys!!

Nice car! Welcome!

Get the moroso CAI, its cheaper, better. As for headers, your have a LOT more choices, look on www.LS1speed.com My friend got the MAC tru-fit headers, and I helped put them on, so if you live close enough to me(I'm in cali too, Chino Hills BABY!!) I could help you. They can come with a Y-Pipe, but I'm not sure if it'll pass cali emissions.

You can do rear gears, flewplate, aluminum d-shaft, stall(if its an auto), a better y-pipe with the stock cats on it(I'm not too sure of cats that are legal in California). There is a LOT more stuf you can do, but I'm not sure if they are all Cali-legal. You can look at cams and stuff, just see if it has 50 state legal by it or a CARB exemption.

Late!

Thanks for the advice! I'll probably make the Moroso CAI my next mod. Does it use replaceable filters, or do you clean and reuse them like the K&N's?

And thanks for the offer to help install headers. I'll probably wait a while on the headers and do some of the more inexpensive mods like the CAI first.
