Help w/cam decision!
 

I'm getting a cam package for my bday....I was thinking of getting a hotcam kit.

I will be running the stock torque converter for awhile, but will eventually get a 2800 stall, but that's not gonna happen anytime soon. I want something with a decent lope, and I don't want to go any higher than 6400 RPM's or so.

Seriously though, if you want the best street cam, go with the xe 224/230.

How will the 224/230 behave w/stock converter?

Should be alright, but if you want my advice, go with a high stall tc before a cam. You won't regret it :)

I'll see how my gas mileage is.....if it's back up after the tuneup, I'll get a TC too, but I'm going to be running a few months on stock TC.

A verter is something you really have to have, or have driven a car with one, to appreciate. They're fun as hell :bow: and mine's a baby!!

lol yep, that's what they all tell me.....like I said, I'm going to get one, but a few months after I get the cam...for now I just want a mild cam that will put me in the 12s....mid 12s is the goal for my car, and I figure if I can run 12.8s or so with a cam, then a converter would put me into the mid 12s.

Get the TC first.

If I get a converter it's most likely going to be a Vigilante, and I know my parents aren't going to spend $700 on a bday present. I can get an LT4 hotcam kit for $475, or a combo motorsports cam package for about $100 more.

I've heard of a few people running stock converters with bigger cams than the 224/230, but not for long periods of time.

Your definately not going to get the full potential out of the set-up without the converter.

And go with the CMotorsports package (better quality) IMO.

I ran my 224/230 with the stock converter for about a year. The only issue I had with it was some lurching when at a stop. With the pcm tune, my idle is 850. I also installed a cooler with the cam just to be safe though. Never had any problems.

Just a heads up if you're considering a cam swap....

Don't underestimate the total cost of this project. Not to deter you from doing it, but I ended up having to spend ALOT more than the $579 for the CMotorsports cam kit
