Help needed with valve spring installed height

ok, i have a set of AFR 190 LT1 heads that i am trying to install a set of beehive springs on. i need a 1.750-1.760 installed height....here's the problem, when i installed the locators, valve spring mic, retainner and locks, i get a reading on the mic of 2.000-2.020" when the step on the retainer is subtracted..... so that would tell me that the needed shims would be .250...which is way too much....there wouldn't be much for the oil seal to go over...i then thought that the previous owner may of had +.250 longer valves in the heads so i ordered a set of standard length valves and i get the same reading.....is it possible that the AFR spring pockets are lower than stock castings? Please help me...Thanks
