Help with misfire
Hey guys well i got a bit of a problem.. Put some le1 heads and a xe224/230 comp cam in my 1993 z28 and got everything back together. We first cranked it up and it idled really really crazy. Adjusted the rockers and pretty much set everything to the best we could get them. Now the car won't even start. Have rockers set to zero lash at tdc. I have fuel pressure, I do have spark. ITs a 93 so its a splined opti(goes on one way) drive rather then dowel drive. Injectors are sequential so they fire bank 1 and bank 2(which I do have pulse). Pulled the timing cover back off and cam sprocket and crank sprocket are exactly dot to dot. So i am lost....I wasn't exactly sure where the opti should be sitting with the cam and crank sprocket dot to do. Its on cynlinder 6 i want to say, but i am not sure...You turn the starter and all you hear is the car wanting to start, and you let the starter off and it putters and backfires a bit and dies.Any help would be appreciated....
Re: Help with misfire
When you have spark, fuel and compression and it still does not start, the spark timing is off. If you do a leak down and confirm all the valves are shut, you pretty much have figured out it's spark timing. When you said it backfires and quits, you confirmed it. The easiest way to check this is to set 1 to TDC and remove the opti cap. See if the rotor is facing the contact inside the cap for #1. You could do any cylinder for that matter.
Oh yeah, I thought when the dots on the timing gears lined up, #1 was at TDC. might be wrong though it's been a long time since I did one.
