help me please......bad knock in engine

My other post didn't go over to well so I will try again. I am about to kill myself because of this car, it is costing a lot of money. Anyways, there is a very distinct knock coming from one cylinder, I think. Any idea what this could be???
From what I have heard, piston slap is when the wrist bearing or whatever it is one the end of the rod breaks, and the piston kind of jerks up and down when the rod pulls on it. Could this be a possible problem? Would scanning the codes tell us anything about what is wrong, our would it be pointless. I figure either way the engine is gonna have to be torn down, and most likely rebuilt. Thanks for any help.

First you should check the valve train.Been revving it high?Maybe a bent push rod or rocker out of adjustment. How many miles?

Okay, I didn't want to admit it, but I 'accidentally' redlined it and it happened right after that. You think it might be a bent pushrod then? That shoud be a lot cheaper/easier than a piston or something. I has close to 150,000 miles. Any other ideas?

Take the push rods out and roll them on a flat surface.

Will I need any new gaskets after trying this? Probably will, but I just want to know if I will be able to take the car to a shop if this isn't the case. I probably need the valve cover gasket right, because as far as I know oil squirts aound in there doesn't it?

You can reuse them as long as they arent damaged.Just wipe them off.

Normally you can get away with reusing the valve cover gasket. They are very soft and rubbery. I would definitely take a look in there first, before deciding to go further. Sounds like you don't have a lot of experience inside the engine. Find some local help if you can or just post back here and people will try to do what they can.

Well, I only know what I have read about engines, and from what you guys have said. I know more than the average guy, but not much. I planned on doing a engine rebuild NEXT winter, not this one, so I have done a bit of reasearch. So would a bent rod be a good possibility seeing how I "revver the **** out of it" as everyone says nowadays. I hope so, because I was just going to order some ground effects and get it painted. If one more thing happens after this, I will crash it into a tree and get some insurance money. Just venting a little, anyways back to the topic...

Any other ideas guys? I will check the pushrods tomorrow. Would one really hard rev actually bend one?

Yes one really hard rev can bend a rod. I just bent 2 on my new stroker with only 300 miles on her. It happened at 4500 Rpm or so. scared the crap out of me. but fortunately they bent so bad they fell out of the rockers and lifter seats. I used 7808-16 hardened rods from summit. I just ordered 4130 chrome moly p-rods to replace them.

I am going to check them today, but I have one last question, will a bend rod just make a knocking sound? Because that is all that happened.

Is this worth it to check? People say that a stock engine can't bend a pushrod, is this true? I am going to check in an hour or so, but I don't want to waste my time if it won't help.

Well, thats not what happened. I took it to a few shops and they all said it was a rod, not the push rod. So, so much for having a nice car to drive. Does anyone have a complete parts list for a engine rebuild? I am just gonna put all new parts in it, pprobably with just a hotcam kit.
