Help Immediatly
how do i get the oil pan i have all the bolts off, the oil filter thing off, starter is off, and y pipe and cat is off. the damn thing wont slide. i know about the motor lifting but is that the only way. can i lower the K member a little but still leave the bolts on there? help me as soon as possible im in the middle of this thing as we type on here.
|
to lower the k-member youl'l have to lift the motor with an engine hoist, theres no other way. But yes you can back the bolts out about an inch just fine, you might need pry the k-member down, youl'l also have to take the long bolts out of the motor mounts.

Make sure you remove the low oil sensor or it will get broken. Sometimes rotating the crank a little can get the throws out of the way to give you more room.

i have heard a lot about that thing. i unplugged the sensor on the side of the oil pan if thats what your talking about. and also i have the motor mounts disconnected from the motor and its as high as it can go w/out breaking the overhanging plastic piece. i also have the k mebmer bolts off but it didnt look like it moved an inch. should i have to pry pretty good on this thing or should it fall right down. i also have the starter off, the oil filter thing is off, oil cooler lines are off, and the oil pan is just hanging there. please help any more sugestions are awesome. im back on the job today and will be randomly checking this throughout the day. say any more info is great. thanks alot for the help so far!!

The oil level sensor needs to be remove from the side of the oil pan, not just unplugged. It's a plastic cylinder that protrudes into the pan. You can see it in Shoebox's drawing here (item 178): http://shbox.com/ci/oil_pan_bolts.jpg

Its not a bolt per se. Its a plastic sensor. Take an adjustable wrench and you'll be able to get it off. Its not on there tight, you MAY be able to get it off by hand if you have a good grip. You have disconnected the bolts for the motor mounts? If you jack the engine up by the transmission you can get the engine as high as the transmission tunnel. Then lower the K-member. You should be able to get the pan out. Why are you taking the pan off anyway? |
Yep, that bigass bolt ends up being like a 5inch long sensor give or take an inch.
The portion of which protruding into the pan is plastic and breakable. You have it unplugged, simply unscrew it and remove it. |
Use a block of wood between the transmission and the jack.
