Help with Hose situation!!!!.......
 

OK I have a situation here. I somehow cracked or broke the top nipple right under the radatior cap. Its the plastic fitting that the hose that goes to the overflow tank goes on.
I tried glueing it.....That didnt work.
Im thinking maybe buying one of those small hosefittings and screwing it into the plastic piece of nipple that is still left and then putting th ehose over that ??????
ANYone had this happen to them????
I dont wanna replace the whole radiator for a broken fitting/nipple.:confused:

You could try that, i would suggest putting some jb weld or something to insure that it doesnt leak when the cap releases pressure. whatever route u decided to go, just test it to make sure it doesnt leak

I tried glueing together the broken piece to the half nipple in the radiator..seems like the jb weld in using softens the plastic!!!!!!

Yep - the catalyst will melt the plastic. You need to use an epoxy putty
or an epoxy gel to work with this. I would prefer the putty, since it stays
firm while you're working with it (and it wont run). I use putty from Polymeric
which works really good - they have different "sticks" for different applications:

You probably want either the QuickPlastic or AquaMend - they're both
designed for plastics. I recently cracked the "snout" on the knock sensor
and used AquaMend to repair it. (I vote for AquaMend for your repair).

These sticks can be purchased at any hardware store - I bought mine at
Home Depot for around $4.00 - 5.00 a stick.

I knew I should have gotten the puty instead of this JB weld junk. IT TOASTED THE BROKEN PIECE. Now all I have is the little broken stem on the radiator.
Looks like im gonna have to put a hose fitting type of thing in there....
what size??? doeas anyonE KNOW?:confused:

You might want to call a radiator shop and ask how much they will charge
to weld in a new barb.

I was going to suggest you might try a fitting like this:

But you would also need a piece that would be threaded and have a very
flat end - the threaded end would be pushed through the existing hole
(in the filler neck) and then you would screw the barb fitting (above) onto
the other fitting. The problem is that the radiator cap - the inner valve would
have to clear the inner fitting, since the cap's valve is "pushed up" under
pressure (and subsequently feeding coolant to the coolant reservoir).
