Heads and Intake help!
Ok, a good friend of mine was supposed to port-n-polish my heads (along with a valve job) and p-n-p my intake. But....fate is one cold b*tch and he was put back in jail for a probation violation right as I get my car apart and all the parts to him. So now I'm stuck with either puting it back together stock and waiting for him to get out (and doing this all over again) or going ahead and having another shop do it. I'm leaning towards another shop, lol. Anyways, he was going to port my heads and intake as much as they'd go, so what I was wondering was; what are some numbers that I could tell these people at the machine shop for my heads and intake? I have a 93 LT1. I know these guys are going to do a good job, but I can't help but think our heads and intake our a special case, I mean they only made them from 1992 - 1997. So I'm not sure how many aluminum reverse flow heads these guys have done and don't want them doing something they aren't supposed to. So does anyone out there have any advice to give me before I hand my heads and intake over to them? Any kind of footnotes or advice to give to these people so I don't end up with a ruined intake? Thanks in advance,

Don't take this the wrong way, but it doesn't sound like you have the knowledge necessary to make those specifications. In all reality, the best thing you can do at this point is send your heads/intake off to Phil @AI or Lloyd Elliot. They have literally done hundreds of LT1 heads, so experience and knowledge wouldn't be an issue. You'll end up with better heads than the local machine shop can churn out.

No, I don't want to do them myself or anything, I know I would mess them up. But the machine shop here in town does stuff for the local drag racing circuit. I talked to them today and they referred me to a shop in Austin but they wanted too much money. So I'm just going to wait for my friend and have him do it when he returns. I was wondering though, what would I use to clean the intake and the heads up a bit. I'd like to give the intake a little paint (So it wouldn't look so plain). What would be best to clean all the gunk out and make it ready for paint? Also, can anyone recommend a set of header bolts for my car? I just bought some BBK headers and I was wondering what set to use for my car. Thanks, late.
