Lightbulb heads and cam???

ok i have a 94 lt1 with all the bolt ons and 410 gears, its a six speed. it has 160,000 miles on it no probs at all no unusual noises using oil or anything. i was thinking about putting the new trickflow heads and the comp 306 cam in from summit for around 2000 for parts. would it be worth it with that many miles on my car or should i wait and do a rebuild?

thanks a lot terry

to be honest with you i think it would be a waste of time and money to install the go fast stuff with those kinds of miles on board spend the cash and freshen her up,adding a cam that extends the RPM like the one mentioned could affect the longivity the shortblock, jmo but i have done it and the motor will not take much abuse...........

This is probably going to get moved to LT1 Tech but the trickflow heads on a stock bottom is going to kill your compression. Gaining 10cc of chamber volume is not a good thing unless you are throwing a blower on the motor.

Going with ported stock heads with a cam matched to the heads from one of the board sponsors is cheaper and will get you more power.

Another vote for freshening up the bottom end before you do heads/cam. Maybe do a budget 355 shortblock and go from there.

Re: heads and cam???

Here is what ya do

-leak down test
-cranking comp test
( good luck if you have manifolds still!! )
-cut open your oil filter and check for metal
-base line dyno run

if any of these are off the heads and cam are a no go
if they pan out I would jump in

just remember to do service stuff while your in there

-!!New lifters!!
-aftermarket push rods
-h20 pump
-opti and wires
-02 sensors
-knock sensors
-drain the block
-clean and re gasket everything
