Header gasket install advice....

Im putting in my RK sport headers and have the Felpro 1406 gasket that is so heavily reccomended.
What is the best procedure for installing the header, RTV the gasket, spray it with copper sealant?
I want to ensure that I dont have any issues with the gasket.
Thanks

I put my 1406's in bare. Just re-torque the header bolts a few times over the course of a week, and you will be fine.

So there is no need for gasket sealer?

No sealer needed, particularly not silicone. It looks very amateurish oozing out of gaskets where it's not needed. Have you considered copper or aluminum gaskets? Not only are they reusable, but mine have never needed retightening whenever I've checked them.

I used the Permatex copper adhesive spray on my Fel-Pros, but I really don't think it is completely necessary. Just make sure you torque the bolts every now and then or just buy a set of locking header bolts and be done with it completely.

IMO the best thing you can do when installing headers is put locking headrer bolts on. I like Breslins, cost is high (I think I paid $64 from Jegs)but WELL worth it!. It make the install ALOT easier and you won't have to worry about header bolts backing out and having to do everything over again. I say this with experiance......my first time I went cheap and used the header bolts Jet-Hot sent and blew the gasket within a month. I will never make that mistake again. Some get lucky and use regular bolts and never have problems but that's very unlikely. Do it right the first time and never worry about it again.......that's my advise.
