Header bolt holes stripped

So i pretty much got lied too about this car. Was told "Its just an exhaust header gasket leak. No problems". Yeah... Head has to come off, get examined and i hope will just need to be rethreaded. Worst case i'll need a new freaking head.

Major issue with the the intake manifold as well. Tech thinks its leaking oil somewhere and doesnt match up well with the heads. Car is getting better and better

Re: Header bolt holes stripped

HELICOILS would be the fix. probably got the bolts cross threaded and kept tightening striping out the threads.

Is it a bolt in a location that precludes retapping for a larger diameter bolt, with the head on the engine?

Why does the "tech think its leaking oil somewhere"? Either he sees an external leak or he doesn't. Or does he feel the gasket is leaking, allowing oil to be pulled into an intake runner?

The most common intake manifold leak on the LT1 is at the rear of the manifold, where it sits on top of the block's "china wall". There is no gasket at that location. It's sealed with a bead of RTV, which dries out and leaks. Is that where yours is leaking? To check, take a paper towel, standing on the passenger side, reach back under the cowl, where the head, the block and the intake manifold come together. Wipe, and inspect the towel for heavy oil.

Re: Header bolt holes stripped

It's unfortunately not a single hole. It's multiple holes. It's the first 3 on the driver side and after doing some reading on the lt1 manifold leak this sounds exactly what my issue is.
