head gasket problem
Re: head gasket problem
you dont have to drop the engine. everyone makes it sound like it's a pain in the ***, but it's not.
-pull the intake manifold
-pull the valvecovers
-unbolt rockers, and pull the pushrods out(make sure you keep them in order)
-follow procedure to undo head bolts (17 or 18)
(dont just completely undo one bolt at a time, do theminincrements, so as to not warp the heads)---use some PB blaster, or any penetrating oil on most of the bolts
-there a coolant line that connects both of the heads, and crosses behind the intake. its easy to strip the banjo bolts, so be careful. i found it easier to get a friend to help pull the heads off while still connected, and take the coolant line off once they were out of the car.
i might be forgetting a couple steps...correct me if im wrong

Re: head gasket problem
mojorisin pretty much said everything that needs to be done. I agree on waiting till the heads are off to take off the banjo bolts/coolant line. You'll need a friend to do this. Also, make sure both mating surfacs (block and heads) are COMPLETELY CLEAN of all grease, old gasket, grime, etc. Another thing to check is the heads. Get a flat level and check to make sure your heads are perfectly level. If not, take them to a machine shop and have them decked (If you do this, might as well get a 3angle valve job w/ new seals while the heads are in the shop).
Here's a few other things:
-Disconnect EGR from back of intake and header
-remove header/manifolds
-remove alternator
-remove coil from driver side head
-torque heads and intake in proper increments according to factory specs
-buy plenty of baindaids ahead of time
