Head and Cam package
Head and Cam package
So I'm pretty new to this speed stuff. I'm thinking about getting a head and cam package. I have 2 questions.
1. how does this give me so much extra HP, I see a lot of people getting sometime 70 additional Horses Rear wheel. How does this make more HP.
2. Where should I look to make a purchase and what do I need to supply.
Thanks

Re: Head and Cam package
1. The head port is more efficient in delivering the air-fuel charge to the cylinder, and has the ability to supply more volume at a given valve lift. The cam then will open the valve for a longer amount of time, and lift it further, giving more time to fill the cylinder.
2. Personally I went with Lloyd Elliot (www.eportworks.com) and if I were to do everything over again, I would get the LE3 heads with an LE2 cam on a 355. I love the powerband of the 383, but those extra cubic inches limit rpm potential with a stock casting, whereas a stock casting is sufficient for a 350/355 peaking around 6500rpm. If you want to go all out, and spend some extra cash, AI (www.advancedinduction.com) is the only way to go. They are known to cost more, but many reputable members that have seen both generally agree that you get what you pay for.
You need to supply head castings, and try to get non "561" castings as those don't have as good of a potential for port work as the other LT1 castings. The stock heads on your '94 should be the good ones for porting. A popular thing to reduce downtime is to purchase a set of stock heads from ebay or the board for $200 - $250 and send those out for porting. Then when you swap yours out, you can sell your stock ones to someone looking to do the same.

Re: Head and Cam package
No, unless that's what you order. Moding the top including larger valves, springs, RRs, etc. is something you need to seriously consider based on what you intend to do. Good idea to have the porters do the top according to your decision regarding the parts so that if anything goes wrong you will have a warranty on parts and labor. JMHO
