Hardtop Removal Help

I have a hardtop Z28 and I was wondering if, instead of installing t-tops, can you just cut the top out completely? (to be a removable piece, not cut it out permanently.) Is this possible? How much would it cost? In case it's unclear, I'm talking about cutting the top out from the windshield to the line where t-tops usually end.

Ok, I called a bunch of places yesterday asking about having a "targa top" installed, and no one will do one locally. If anyone knows of a shop that would be willing and experienced enough to cut a car in such a way, please let me know.

well, you cant just cut the top out, because then you will need to know of a way to get it to latch in place, also, the structure of frame is now jeoperdized, so thats why a shop wont do it. too much liability on their part

Targa tops sure are pretty, but hardtops are much more structurally sound.

Thats what I was thinking, especially on our type of bodies. You would definatlely have to go and get some convertible SFC's installed. Not to mention that I don't know a single after market made targa top that doesn't leak.

I love the idea of a Targa F-Body, but there's only one fourth gen I know if, and that's Whistlers.

It will take away some structural rigidity, and getting a custom piece will be very expensive.

It's possible, as proven, but finding a regular shop to do it is next to impossible. You need to go to a custom shop, which is gonna cost some bucks.
