Hand porting the intake?
 

I see there are some rough parts of the casting in the intake.... you think if I cut the divider out in the front of the TB and hand sanded everything inside the intake to 800 grit smoothness it might let me squeeze 3-4 hp out of this thing? Getting it that clean might get rid of all the carbon deposits too.....

Unless your name is Mr. Skinnyarms I doubt you could do a good job of it that way. Some have cut the whole top off and worked it while others have used long cutters thru the ports. Also, there is Extrude Hone, which costs a bundle.

Going that smooth would be pointless. You might gain a little through cleaning up any blatant casting flaws and such but don't get carried away.

All I did was take out the casting flash and smooth up the ports with a long bit and sanding rolls. Can't really do any more than that unless you cut it open or extrude hone it as mentioned.

Cutting the divider out between the throttle blade holes will mess up the idle air passages.

Unless you'll be going to a 58 mm throttle body at some point I wouldn't even mess with the throttle body bore openings,

What I did with mine was gasket match the openings, and tried to make them as straight as possible, and I found a few places in the casting where aluminum seemed to be in the airstream behind the bore opening, so I flattened them out.

A little tweaking with the tune and idle is all I needed, and my cam is pretty healthy at 250/260. You could go ahead and port it for a monoblade, and tweak it to work with a twin TB. Don't go off of my opinion though, that's all that it is.

I agree with Dwayne: You are not going to gain anything significant by addressing polishing up the floor and walls. Believe it or not, the casting finish is not that big of a deal. Feels like it is, but it isn't.

If I net 3-4 fwhp I wouldn't mind. I'm trying to pull every ounce out of this thing.

Well, only one way to find out. Intakes are cheap too, so if you mess up it isn't that big of a deal (50 bucks).

I say significant because I don't believe 3hp is statistically significant enough to claim an improvement. Now, if you control enough variables (engine temp being a huge one) you can probably get close to being able to note 3hp increments, but it just seems a bit of a waste of time, for a street car.

Waste of time is my middle name. LOL I'm going for a all out stock cam monster so every little bit counts.... and those little bits add up quickly. :)
