got to thinking....

about my motor. It's sitting on the stand almost ready to drop in. I recall the machine shop guy telling me to use a external balanced flywheel and 400 balancer. They don't make a 400 balancer for Lt1 do they? So now what am I going to do?

Re: got to thinking....

any suggestions? I'd rather not tear it down and have it rebalanced as its almost ready to drop in. Could I have the LT1 hub and damper matched to a 400 balancer this is the only thing I can think of.

Re: got to thinking....

you should have had the crank internally balanced

The machine shop should have known to internally balance the engine. I would go down and talk to them. If you have to come to some sort of comprimise. Are you using the stock crank, or is this an old 400 crank and your doing a stroker? If your using the stocker then they should have seen that it was internally balanced.

The stock crank was neutral in front and balanced by the flywheel in back. Do a search on this - I think someone else just went through this very thing and resolved it somehow.

Re: got to thinking....

Using 1 piece Scat stock replacement crank. I asked how much to balance rotating assemlby he told me $120+ if it needed metal. I asked if he needed my damper and flexplate he said no so I thought it was going to be internal balanced. I never told him to external balance it and he didn't say he was going to.

Re: got to thinking....

i would not trust that machine shop at all, the only proper way to do a balance job is to have the flywheel and balancer so they can balance them at the same time

Re: got to thinking....

what would the machine shop need to do to the crank for it to need a 400 balancer, add weight or take weight off? I'm going to have a look at the crank.
