Got it dyno'd, am I getting vavle float (graph inside)

http://www.lifeinwidescreen.com/upload/dyno 52105.jpg
And a comparison of the GM 846 (222/230) and my old powermax 224 (210/224)
http://www.lifeinwidescreen.com/uplo...comparison.jpg

I'm going to wait until I get the valve flaot fixed and the tune fixed to make a real comparison, it looks like this cam would pull past 6500...

If its valve float what would you guys recomend, the AFR hydra-rev kit, or just stronger vavle springs? I have no idea what valve springs are in the car or how long they have been in it, but they are beefy looking double vavle springs, but they are obviously worn out or not up to the task..

Check out that beehive thread... that's what I would do to fix that problem. The Old Cam doesn't look that bad either.

I think you're going a bit lean up top, might try richening her up, as for valve float, if you're using an XE grind they only rev to about 6k anyways.

If its valve float I would think you would be able to hear it on the dyno...Pull a few springs and get them checked..

When I'm in the car I can hear the engine breaking up past 6200....

You should hear the engine totally change the sound like VOOOM from BAAAA like the engine all of the sudden is just free reving, thats what valve float sounds like.

Definetly float. Unless your turning that thing to almost 7,000 you will be faster with your old cam judging by that graph.

Well I'm hoping it picks up some torque with a new tune, and with new valve springs i'm hopin it keeps makin power till 6700, but yeah, I miss my old cam. I probably didn't pick up 1hp from the old one considering that was on a 12.0 a/f and 48mm throttle body.

The Crane 99846 is recommended on the cam card with the following specs:

Outer Diameter Top 1.255
Inner Diameter Top .870
Damper YES
Seat Pressure @ Installed Height 125 lbs. @ 1.800
Open Pressure and Height 383 lbs. @ 1.200
Coil Bind 1.100
Average Spring Rate 428 lbs./in.
Maximum Net Lift 0.640

You should run what is recommended or else 26918 beehives. I have the
26918s, which is probably a bit of overkill, but they work fine for me. If you
go with the beehives you may as well go with titanium retainers, heck it's
only money. You can search on the beehives and find a lot of info.

Not much diff between the 846 and 227

Since I have the 104227 (210/224) baby cam I have have been waiting
to see what your results with the 846 would be. I'm really surprised to
see that comparison graph. I hope with the resolution of the power drop
on the top end you get a bunch more horsepower.

Maybe someone can chime in with what the expected HP should be for the
846. I would think, with everything else equal, you should get a +30 minimum
from it. Looking at the area under the curves the 227 really shines and I'm
glad to see it do so well. Good luck with solving the high end problem and keep
us posted on your progress.

Yeah, I miss the 227. :( I'm hoping for 380rwhp with another tune and getting the valve float fixed. Does anyone have the whole part # for the 618 behives, I cant find them on compcams website.

I think I might just get the crane 10308 kit, the springs are a little stronger than the ones recomended on the cam card. Do you think these would be strong enough to rev to ~6700?
