Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
I looked through the search and it came up with so much garbage, i tried.
I am looking into buying a CAI, but theres so much to choose from im totally confused in which one i should buy.
The ones im interested are The Moroso Cai, the Lingenfelter Cai, SLP Cai, and the K&N FIPK. I would greatly appreciate any info you guys have on how much hp, mpg saved, and ET times these cai's offer. THANKS AGAIN!! Dan

Re: Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
Basically, its your choice! it doesnt really matter, they will all produce some higher #'s than your stock airbox. I read in Gm High tech that the Slp put out like 12hp,also i liked the metal piping style so thats why i went with that one. The ones you listed are well known and will work perfectly. On the other hand, i think the SLP is a bit more time consuming when taking it off to work on the motor etc...because you have to get under the car and unbolt the plastic guard to get to the Twin filters. all the others can be lifted right from under your hood from my understanding....so just look for the cheapest one if money is your main concern. as far as MPG, again they are prob all the same

Re: Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
Well I have the SLP CAI and my best run before I got my 13.8 was a 14.4. But I have a few other little things and I took out some stuff for weight, might have gained a tenth, but i was just shooting to get something better than a 14.00. But as far as MPG, I haven't noticed a difference. But gotta love numbers at the strip

Re: Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
I think it's more like 5-10 rwhp.
Good points?
Power
Milage
Bad Points?
Small possibility for water in engine since the filter sits low.
More intake noise (I like this actually)

Re: Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
Me thinks I got about 20 rwhp from my setup. Before the
starts flying all over me, please let me explain. I used to be friends with a guy that had a stock 2.73 geared '98 Z28 A4. When we would race from about a 15 MPH roll we were dead even to about 115 where my car then governed. We did this 4 times just to make sure. At that time all I had done was an upgraded coil, MSD 8.5mm wires, NGK TR55 plugs, the TB bypass, and I cut the stock exhaust off from just over the axle. After those races I bought the LT1 CAI from MTI which, I believe, is no longer in production. I then made my own "ram air" scoop per these instructions http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/ramair/ramair.htm
My scoop is in pretty much the same location as that one is but mine is about 4" wider and I had to cut more of the air dam off than this person did. Anyway, back to the gains.
With the "ram air" scoop and my MTI CAI we raced again 4 times from 15-115. At about 70 MPH I had a little over a car on him and by 115 I had a full 2 cars on him. Correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard that 1 car length= roughly 10 horsepower. In that case I wouldn't be suprised if I got 20 horsepower out of that setup. I seriously doubt it would show it on a dyno but you can actually feel the pull once you hit about 60 MPH. Just my $0.02.

Re: Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
They will all perform about the same, but i believe the Lingenfelter is the cheapest new. I got mine for $159+shipping from their site, or you could try for a used one. Plus the LPE CAI comes with a MASSIVE conical K&N(the bottom firmly fits with the bottom of the splash guard.) Its a little bigger than the filter that came on my K&N CAI that was on my old '94 Z28, and its bigger than any other filter that comes with a CAI that I've seen. I'm not sure if the bigger filter actually helps, but i don't see how it could hurt.

Re: Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
CAI's are CAI's except for G2's(its a pos) Ive owned K&N n moroso...I like both..Lingenfelter is the cheapest w/ moroso next...both are similar
Re: Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
I have had my k&n cai on for about two weeks it was harder to innstall than i thought it would be because the filter has to be installed from the bottom which means removing the air dam and the big plastic peice below the headlight at the very bottom. and this has to be done when the filter needs cleaning kinda bummed about that but hopefully it doesnt get dirty quick. I can feel a better throttle response and the exhuast seems a little louder and I like the sound of the cai because it drowns out some of the trans noise which i hate. I am more of a manual trans nerd.
Re: Good points and bad points of these CAI's?
Are these intakes universal? I mean will they work on Trans Am/ Formulas as well as the Z28s? Or do each car have a specific model? The reason I am asking is that I am looking for a used one and most people just state "for LT1".
Thanks
Thanks
