Good opti- Bad waterpump. How to change waterpump and not kill opti?

How can I pull this off?
I was thinking about it last night-
am I going to have to blow all coolant out with an air compressor or something??

also-
do I can I still use the stock timing chain when going to an electic WP?

It won't explode on contact with water. Just pull the knock sensor and temp sensor so it drains from the block after draining the radiator. There shouldn't be too much in there. Just use a rag to soak up any coolant that might come out.

Drain the radiator and the block(pull knock sensor) then cover the opti the best you can with garbage bags. Worked for me.
Good luck.

Check the OPTI though,2 months after changing my WP found out the Opti was deep sixing from coolant getting into it.
Had I known that, would have changed opti at the time I did WP,would have saved a lot of labor costs.:(

I contacted Meziere when I installed mine (which was pretty easy) and they said for now to leave the shaft sticking out of the timing cover and set aside the piece that connected it to the waterpump drive. It just sits there and spins :) The meziere came with a freeze plug, got it all together and presto. I drained the coolant and barely had any get toward the opti, but a few rags worked fine.

dude it won't be that bad. just drain the radiator (remove the cap, and loosen the bleed screws), cover the opti with a bunch of rags, or even put a plastic bag over it and then cover it. start pulling the hoses , just hold them when you pull them off and antifreeze shouldn't go everywhere. then pull the waterpump bolts. but be careful because when you pull the two long bolts out, some antifreeze will come out. then just make sure the opti is covered good and pull the water pump off. you could drain the block if you want but i wouldn't. as long as you're careful, you should be fine. just my .02

funny you mention it- i dont exactly have one of those right nw-
i kinda cracked it in the block :o
Note to self-
dont let your motor bounce around a pickup truck

while were at it,

i'm also down an 02 sensors, map sensor, coolant sensor, temp sensor, oil pressure sensor, oil level sensor and something else i cant think of right now
