Be very sure to look for any oil leaks. Bought my 95 this summer and come to find out it needed a new intake gasket and valve cover gaskets, cost me about 400 bucks. Also check for signs of opti failure, also check the oil pressure, this one cost me a new engine. Thats really all of the obvious things i can think of.

i saw the engine no signs of oil leaks, dont think anything is wrong with it. as for the opti i really dont know how long it'll last if they havent already replaced it.

I bought mine a month ago, 94 A4 with 75K miles.. everything looked great..paint job flawless, ride strong, until 14 days later...is starts idle rough, hesitating on low rpms,, THESE CAR GIVE ME MORE HEADACHES THAN SCHOOL! ITS A POS IMO. Alot of people told me opti/water pump can solve the problem,, but think..thats like $1,000 maybe more labor/parts if you dont know how to install it yourself, like me. SORRY, JUST NEED TO RELEASE THIS STEAM,,, AND DONT WANT TO SEE OTHER PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES. I HATE MY CAR SO MUCH,,, AND ITS NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!

if u dont like ur car sell it..dont bitch about it....a true f-body lover would love his car no matter what.....every car has their flaws and problems...some a little more than others...but the Lt1 motor are great motors u just have to learn to live with them....

P.S. not intending to start a fight...just an opinion

For the original poster, Id look for a stock car. Im always skeptical of buying a modded one.

For the guy with the wp/opti problem, Ive been through it, I know how it feels. Doing it your self will save you quite a bit of money. You can buy a waterpump from O'reillys for $140, opti for I think $160(reuse the cap and rotor), gaskets and sealant($10), and a crank puller($125 deposit that youll get back). Id replace the factory spring hose clamps with screwtype clamps($3) as well, I learned the hard way. Its not that difficult, if you need exact instructions on what to do, just pm me.

Doing a thorough test drive should help show if there's anything wrong. Things such as how long it takes to start, throttle response, top end power, and transmission shifting can help pinpoint key areas in the ignition and fuel systems, not to mention any obvious problems.

And checking the condition under the hood and the pavement underneath the car a few minutes after driving could help too.

And a lot of the time you can tell how well someone took care of the mechanical side of the car by just looking at how they took care of the interior and paint, etc.

Good luck.

man sorry to bitch bout it, like I say, just need to release some heat no intensions to harm people. It's really frustrating especially if you dont have the money to fix it and need a car for school/work. I hope you understand, dont get me wrong, LT1 is great money for performance but I guess my lack of research is paying off now. I like camaro's (LT1) and thats the reason why I bought this car, but I can't say that I'm a "true f-body" lover ,,,lol.
JUST LIKE LT1....cause my boy PUREPONYPOUNDER...have a 93 Z and I was hooked! but man, I need funds to keep up with maintenace,, not even a whole month to the car... and problems started arising quickly. Who knows what else can go wrong!

Now I really gots to win the lottery tuesday!lol

for the original poster, I would ask the seller to reduce the price for the new opti install..just a thought. Tell him it's going bad.. even if its not, because it will...trust me! lol

I gotta agree, opti is $hit. Just cause some people have gotten 130k out of it, doens't mean everyone will. I know guys who have gotten less than 100 miles out of them. Does that mean ll the opti's fail with less than 100 miles? No. Just like they don't all last 130k.

i havent seen to many lt1s that dont leak at the back of the intake. you just have to reseal it. its no big deal. by the time you buy intake and valve cover gaskets and do the work yourself, youll have about $50 in the job.
