Gettin a Z

im sure you guys are sick of hearing about this all the time...but my dad has finally given in to getting me a z, and he will take my v6...so anyway, we went to go look at one today, listed at 5k..silver t-tops, 6 spd, 99,000 miles..well, there are some pretty bad dings all over the car, and some weird metal things on the lights, maybe where there used to be black out lights but the whole back bumper would have to be replaced/painted due to scratches, and dings, the tint needs to be replaced, we just look past all this, and get in for the test drive, we turn the A/C on and nothing cold...so thats out, the driver side window is out and wont open/close... but this car drove extremely nice i guess except for A LOT of vibration, i asked my dad, my car is so smooth, is it shakey cause the engine is much bigger, or front end going out? He said front end...but damn, it was SOOOO fast! i couldnt belive it!!! so we get out, my dad takes one last look under the car and its just spilling antifreeze...its funny to see the people face when they pretend they never saw that...So we ask what rock bottom he would take for it, and he said 4,200 but my dad was thinking along the lines for 3,500....i know you guys talk about the opti and how they always go wrong..how can i check this? and what are some other major things i need to check?

I wouldn't pay more that 3k for that car man. One thing I've learned over the years is patience. Well I still haven't learned it totally hahahah. Anyway just hold on dude, I know your anxious but there will be a good deal to come along just be patient.

hold out until you find one that t least has a clean body. Also, dont limit yourself to just camaros OR Trans Ams, you can have more to choose from when yu search for both.

Funny thing, I never really liked the LT1 T/A's and look what I drive now

I just traded my 98 v6 for a 97 TA with 90K miles... it had some dings on the paint (no more than my 98 v6) but it also had a cracked dashboard which i dont really care (i'll get dashmat or something) also its missing a **** at the ac :P

the probs with the car is that it runs a bit hot (240 or so sometimes goes to 210) and oil pres gauge doesnt work, and brake light is on cuz the front brake's disc is warped... they wanted 5700 and i said i'll give my 6 and u guys pay tax, i'll just pay title.. so i got a deal for my v6 for about 6K... i love it so far, it pulls strong, and its got every option (leather, full power, t-tops and all) so i'm pretty happy right now... i should been patient cuz i wanted a m6, but its an a4... i just fell in love with the thing when i test drove it tho!

Yep best advice is to wait and somethin better will come along.
You look around you can buy these cars for a song nowadays which sucks for resale value but who cares, we will be able to afford them and hopefully they won,t skyrocket in price and you will always be able to pick up a cool Fbody cheap.

yea...when i was looking for mine...i went through like 3-4 of em till i came along mine took about 2-3 months!! but it was worth it.....the 1st car i looked at was green with white flames with a dvd player and a screen..i thought BAD *** and they were asking 6500 for it...test drove it and the steering wheel was soo lose that i could turn the wheel a full 4 inches b4 the actual car would turn...then the other 2 were like modded with a bunch of stuff and had like 100k on them..so i said the hell with it..ill dive my chevy silverado 1992 with paint falking off everywhere till i get a good deal..plus i got 5k for my truck and it was a 350 1992 Silverado with only like 112k miles on it...pretty good truck if you say!!
well good luck
hope ya find one

i think we will definatley find a good one, do you think i will be able to find a really nice one for about 5,500 to 6,500?? there is one thats been in the paper that i want to go look at, its a 95 blk/blk leather, t-tops, 42k orig miles, orig owner, weekend driver, he said everything is A+ and its like 7,500...its been in the paper for like a month and a half, surely somethin is up with it, cause that seems to good to be true.

You can surely find a better deal, for some reason cars are cheaper in the south. I am from Missouri but I got my car in Florida for 5500 with tax, title, license. It has 80k and was in perfect condition. 1 tiny dent on the rear driver quarter and a few small chips on the nose. Owned by a old lady it's entire life.

First, we're never sick of hearing about someone joining the LT1 family, at least I'm not.

Second, wait for a nicer car to come along, you'll spend a lot to fix body work. it's not that bad for mechnail (sp?) crap, but the body can get costly. I saw 4 different camaros before I found the one I bought.

MECHNAIL??? LOL i think you may wanna check that spelling unless is some new term i dont know about.......lol just messing with ya.

Seriously though, wait and do lots of research and then when you see a car you will know whether or not its a good deal. Go and look at as many cars as you can and don't believe alot of the crap people will say to try and sell you their car.
