Gear noise
just finished up a lt4 swap, slp headers, hotcam, rockers, extreme duty chain set, obd 1 conversion, along with a new gm water pump, new gm optispark, new gm belt tensioner. the last few items i just did while i was there-car has only 55 or 60k on it, just wanted to be sure to be completely broke by the time i was done. car is without a doubt a much happier beastie-it reminds me way before the end of the driveway to turn off that friggin asr, spinning the tires easier. anyhow all i am concerned about is the extra noise that im hearing up front (timing cover) to all that have installed the gm lt4 extreme duty timing set, is what im hearing just the additional noise that some have warned me about? i pulled off the old water pump driven gear and pressed on the new without a hitch, checked the small inner support bearing, and it was fine, the whole job pretty much was painless all the way-is it noisier because the cam and water pump gears are a much harder material now? am i sweating it over nothin? its louder for sure but not death noise louder. i pulled back off the new pump and ran it for a few and the stethescope says its right there behind the timing cover. is it only gear mesh noise? whatcha all think?
