Gasket for oil filter adapter?

Took the oil cooler off while Im replacing the motor and I was wondering if the oil filter adapter that screws into the block(i had to pick up 2 bolts from GM for the cars that dont have the oil cooler)uses a gasket or is it a dry seal?

Thanks

Cody

At your advice (and the advice of others), I think I'm going to pull my oil cooler to be safe. What exactly do you need to buy? Any part numbers would be great.

Thanks,
Rich

It's been awhile, but I don't remember a gasket.

OK, I'm bringing this one up from the dead, cause I need an answer too. :D

Anyone else have any solid info on whether there's a gasket needed there?

Up from dead again.

It uses a gasket AND an o'ring....

If there is no oil cooler, I dont see a part that goes between the oil filter adapter and the block. I do however see a seal that goes between the oil filter adapter and the oil cooler. There are also two o rings that go on the coolant lines connecting to the oil cooler. If there is no oil cooler however, I dont think that the gasket or O rings can be used.

If you go to the dealer, and ask them for a gasket for an oil filter adapter...they will provide you with a round paper gasket, and an o'ring. I've had to **** with my adapter several times this last couple of weekends. The gasket usually sticks to the adapter so well after a few cycles, that you need to scrape the bastard off with a blade.

Yours is leaking as well? Even with the round paper gasket? Mine is leaking from the very top of all that crap where it connects to the block. Is the oil adapter supposed to have any play on the block? I can wiggle mine but I also think thats why its leaking. A while ago I had trouble getting my oil filter off and i was pounding and stuff on it. Do you think that I might have just bent the bolts or something? What could possibly give it play if theres no rubber gaskets up there?

I did NOT use any kind of gasket material at all and have had no leaks at all. I asked several peps about it and even went to 2 chevy dealers and they looked the adapter up and couldnt find anything on a gasket of such..
If you do have the oil cooler tho you will need the o-rings and gasket..
