Low coolent sensor

Hi guys.

I am getting a low coolent light on my dash. After looking around I found this is common and most people just pull the wire on the sensor that goes into the radiator.

I want ant to replace mine. Does anyone know the proper part number and where to order one from?

Thank you!!

Re: Low coolent sensor

The old number is 10096163. The new number is 19299321. You may want to check your current Sensor connector to see if it is a 2 prong or 8 prong style. You can search for either # and get the correct results.

The 2 way fits 94 - 97 Z28's The 8 way fits 94 - 95 Z28's

I have a 95 Z28 and mine was the 2 way. The prices are all over the place from $5 to $95. I purchased mine a year and a half ago from Amazon for $18.50 and it has worked correct since the install.

You also may want to check out shbox.com for a great information website on your Z28

Re: Low coolent sensor

Thanks for the info.
Mine is a 97 Trans Am. I'll check those part numbers and see what my Part stores have.
Appreciate the information.

Re: Low coolent sensor

I just pulled one from a wrecking yard for a back up and it was corroded all inside as well as the metal sensor in it.I cleaned it up with a degreaser and Q tips till it looked clean.Haven't tested it yet though. Also take a look at #10195576 gm coolant level module.Autoparts warehouse feature the Standard#FLS-24 or s1fl24.They sure look the same to me.Hope this helps.

Re: Low coolent sensor

Correct part #.

But.... that part # was used in numerous GM vehicles. As a result, there are a number of lower priced aftermarket parts available, including very cheap Chinese rip-offs of unknown quality.

Re: Low coolent sensor

I was pretty lucky, the one I purchased from Amazon for the $18.50 was an actual GM Sensor. Came sealed up in the original GM plastic bag even. Yeah for me.

Check out the sensor wiring, the coolant level sensor doesn't set a code, it's independent of the PCM. So is the oil level sensor...

Re: Low coolent sensor

In 97 the circuit for the coolant level sensor goes through the body control module, which contains the latching relay. There are codes in the BCM (separate from the PCM) and I think there is a way to read them. Not sure if there is a code for the coolant level sensor. If I get a chance, I'll check the 96 factory manual. Or, you could download a copy of the manual and see what it says. 96 and 97 should be the same with regard to the BCM.

If you unplug the harness connector from the sensor, does the dash light go out? If not, could be a short between the two wire in the harness, or a fault in the BCM.
