its weird, when im at a dead stop its almost like the gas pedal is stuck and i gotta give it more pressure to "unstick" it and then go. i opened the hood and cleaned the throttel boy blades and nothing is blocking the throttle cable. anyone know what else could be causing this?

 

Throttle body spring might be getting weak.

 

maybe it's the linkage...throttle cable. my older mustang had an actual cable threaded insied a flexible metal braided hose...the cable started to break and the metal strands of the cable would get stuck in the braids of the the metal hose. also check the throttle body, where the plates on the inside are, they may be sticking, all you gotta do is take some b-12 chem tool in the spray can and spray it in there, or take it off and do it. you could have bad bearings on the rod that holds the plates...i forget what its called...if you have around 80k, it may be time to upgrade to a bored stock unit with bearings...or just get a new one

 

Throttle blades are sticking shut. This happens when theres is a lot of gunk around the blades. You might wanna try cleaning it or if that doesnt work just use that throttle stop screw to adjust the blades out enough they quit sticking.

 

ok ty. i did spray some b-12 in there and it didnt help but this weekend i will take the tb off and give it a good cleaning.

 

Strange as it seems, I sometimes find my floor mat moves up and gets in the way of the pedal causing a problem like that.

After a thorough TB cleaning, dab some oil on the butterfly rod where it enters the housing. I've had my rpm's "hanging" on deceleration after cleaning the TB; the lube cured the issue.

 

I had the same problem when I switched to a Holley 58mm TB. It went away when I went back to the stocker. I couldn't figure out what was causing it.

 

Holleys lack of quality control Most of their throttle bodies do stick, along with the BBK ones.

Which TB are you running, I notice you say it's 52mm. Your problem is wrong fitting blades or even damage to the blades in some cases.

sure...trade that nasty thing in for a bored stock unit...

go to ebay...they are less than 200. or you can get ahold of nomad for even cheaper...he does it too. there's a thread about who bores stock tb's somewhere on here...

 

Maybe you skipped the part about how to correct it.

 

You can try to recenter the butterflies. This is what I did with my 58mm BBK (as it would stick, especially when I'd attempt to close it completely to fix the split blms). Take the Throttle body off, back the idle stop screw out far enough so that it's no longer touching the lever (throttle completely closed). Carefully loosen the butterfly screws about a 1/2 turn. Carefully open and close the throttle so that the butterflies recenter in their bores. When your satisfied that it's as good as it'll get (it'll still feel a bit sticky as the throttle is now stoping against the bores and not the set screw), tighten the butterfly screws. Then screw the idle stop screw in until it contacts the lever and then turn it another 1/4-1/2 turn or just enough so that any remaining stiction is gone. You can also try deburing the edges of the butterflies with fine sandpaper. Hope this helps.
