Funny shifting

My trans. is acting up and I would like to know what I should expect. Both situations are most common at freeway speeds. Basically if I floor the car the trans feels like it downshifts twice, ie. maybe it is dropping from 4 to 3 and then 2, with a noticeable delay- whereas before it would just feel like it went straight into the chosen gear. This is more noticeable in D than OD, but happens in both.

Also when I am accelerating at part throttle(~60-75%), steady position, the trans will sometimes downshift for a second or two and have trouble choosing gears. In other words rather than accelerating smoothly like it should, the car starts accelerating, dropshifts as if it's being floored, then quickly goes back to the previous gear.

These types of things are hard to explain... But the car definately doesn't feel right at all. Any ideas what the problem could be?

You might try this in the drivetrain forum.
