Finally installed my long tubes....couple questions
Finally installed my long tubes....couple questions
After SIX f@#$'n days I finally got my JEt-Hot long tube headers installed. It was a battle of wills between me and the car. Anyhow, here's my questions.
1.) I used the Stage 8 header bolts. MY service manual said to torque them to 23 ft/lbs each. I know a couple are at least that tight. I'm not sure I could get the others that tight... even with alternating between a ground 7/16 wrench and the allen wrench.
So, how do I know if they're leaking? I'm using Mr Gasket copper seal gaskets. I can hear the valves ticking a bit under the hood, but no really obnoxious or loud ticks. I'm just not totally sure if I have enough torque on all he bolts.... any input would be appreciated.
2.) I managed to break a small wire when routing the driver's side O2 sensor. MY oil pressure now reads 80+psi at all times, so I'm sure that wire controlled the oil pressure gauge. MY question...where's the oil pressure sensor located. Is it on the back of the engine. I'm pretty sure the wire broke from the sensor hookup. The catch is I can't see behind the engine and have to work off "feel". Any help would be nice.
Finally, the car sounds awsome with the LT's. I lost a bit of low end torque, but the top end is noticably more powerful. I'll also never do this job again willingly!! The olny easy part was installing the oil dipstick tube, believe it or not! I got it in 30 seconds total

Its behind the intakes rear rail, sort of on the drivers side. Next to the EGR valve. Here is a pic of mine.

exhaust leaks are most noticeable when your in a gear at low revs... take 4th at 35mph. floor it and see if u hear a pat pat pat pat pat noise.
Just tighten down those bolts the best u can.. Next time i do mine im going to have to put some teflon tape or something on the top of the threads so those bolts dont back out... even back out a little with locking bolts.
Long tubes kick *** dont they

Appreciate the responses.... the pic of the oil pressure sensor was exactly what I needed
Found out an interesting tidbit too. My headers seem to leak because the gaskets weren't prepped right. I'm using copper on the headers and dead-soft aluminum on the collector. I found out both these need to be heated with a torch prior to install. (Which I didn't do.) The copper ones are heated and then cooled..the aluminum ones installed warm. I have a shop that's going to "fix" my problem gaskets for $100 total. So much for installing these puppies on my own
BTW....the long tubes do kick butt. "Rice-rocket" drivers won't even look over at me when waiting in traffic.

I had this same problem, I somehow severed that wire that goes from the oil pressure sending unit that you see in that picture. Shoebox gave me a part number that I ordered from Jason Cromer. Do a search under my username "ponyackn". Shoebox gave me all the info I needed in that post. You do have to work off feel with that sensor but it isn't that bad.
