FelPro 1074 4.125 bore work on 4.030 - 355?

Hello,

I need to change my head gaskets and was wondering if the FelPro 1074 gasket would be ok to use even though the bore size is slightly larger than the actually bore of my cylinders. The specs on the 1074 are 4.125 and my bore size is 4.030. will this be fine?

Was looking to get these off summit racing, not sure if there is a different 1074 gasket I should be looking at.

Thanks,

Tom

Those work just fine. They are a very popular service gasket.

Cool thanks, heard the 1074's were good from what I researched, but wasnt sure about the size. Was originally thinking about some Cometics, but heard the mating surfaces need to be decked a certain way for them to work properly.

I used 1074's on mine. No trouble at all. The stock head gasket is also 4.125".

Well that makes sense then. The stock gasket on number 8 cylinder towards the upper left corner blew out into the coolant passage. Would an increase in compression above stock, say around 11:1 be too much for the stock gaskets?

The material of the stock is some form of metallic compared to what the 1074's seem to be made out of.

Thanks,

I don't think there would be any problem with stock gaskets and that compression. However, I'd still go with the 1074's unless you have to have a certain thickness gasket to hit your target compression. I'm not 100% certain, but I think the 1074 is little thinner than stock, but not as thin as the gaskets used in the Impala.

Thanks,

You need to have the heads surfaced by a shop that can put a very fine finish on them, and you also need to look at the deck carefully where it blew, that's the spot where they always go and it's very common to have an indentation or erosion of the deck there which will keep the new gasket from sealing.

The compression is less of an issue than the use of a composite gasket with dissimilar head and block materials, the scrubbing action kills the gasket and deck surfaces over time which is why an MLS gasket is always preferred in that situation...but yes, that gasket will be just fine as long as there's no damage to the block.
