feels like car is missing

Ok i just got my fuel filter changed and my spark plugs changed, when i am cruising i feel tiny hesitations or jerks in the car, I have only driven the car maybe a distance of 5km after the stuff was changed, will this go away or should i go back to the mechanic?

tkatchev69 Mar 16, 2003 01:18 PM

That's exactly how my current problem started out! And now it has progressed to when I step on the gas, it sort of shakes without going anywhere for a second, and then all of a sudden, the car takes off. I did the same work on my car, trying to eliminate the small things. My next guess is fuel pump? Any thoughts?

**** so the problem is only going to get worse?!?!

i dunno what it could be!! someone help!

Twice The Fun Mar 16, 2003 01:23 PM

try plugs and plug wires....mine did this, and i replaced the following
  • opti
  • MAF
  • intake elbow
  • blocked off EGR
nothing helped, doing plug wires soon...

bachehbad Mar 16, 2003 01:46 PM

so your saying replacing those components didn't do anything???

why would this happen after i throw in new plugs and a new fuel filter?!? i just don't get it? This happened just after i changed the plugs, could the fuel filter not be on correctly????

Rodrigues Mar 16, 2003 01:49 PM

I had that as well and my car was running very rich, is your fuel consumption really bad?

tkatchev69 Mar 16, 2003 01:54 PM

I suspect I'm running very rich, based on the soot on the inside of the tail pipes. I ran a container of Seafoam through, just to help clean the fuel system, but didn't notice anything different. I tried the gas "dryer" also, in case there was some water in there. Any other thoughts?

LS1_03 Mar 16, 2003 03:01 PM

Try changing the plug wires and coil wire.

bachehbad Mar 16, 2003 03:29 PM

why does a car run rich though? and how can you stop it from running rich???

my94blackz Mar 16, 2003 03:34 PM

Well i burn so rich i throw flames
and i also have the notorius hesitation (0-2000)

Rodrigues Mar 16, 2003 03:50 PM

Well basically I had the 0-2000 RPM stumble, my car was completely stock and I was gettiing BLM's in the 111's, I was running way to rich then I got it programmed and it went away.

bachehbad Mar 16, 2003 04:00 PM

so think if i get my ECU reprogrammed it'll go away???

And did you guys have some powerloss too??? feels like i lost maybe 30 or 40 horsepower.

cals400ex Mar 16, 2003 04:17 PM

if you had NO problems before you installed the plugs, i bet that is your problem. maybe your wires or coil is bad. what i would do first is go back and make sure every plug is in tight and that you have a good connection with the plug wires. i also had the famous low rpm stumble and new o2's cured almost all of the problem. while checking the plugs/wires i would disconnect the battery to reset the computer and then connect it back up when your done. take it for a drive and let us know if it still missed.

bachehbad Mar 16, 2003 06:59 PM

Ok disconnected the battery for a good 10 minutes....

hooked it back up, still same stumbling....
but my car stumbles after 2000RPM, if im very easy on the gas it stumbles, if i accelerate relativly hard meaning 1/4 throttle, everything is smooth except slight loss in power.

tkatchev69 Mar 16, 2003 07:07 PM

That sounds exactly like my problem. I hope someone knows our problem!!
