Exhaust System Upgrade Question

I was just curious about some upgrades i could do to my exhaust on my 95' Trans Am.

I found some test pipes on the market, but i was just wondering if it would be worth the trouble? Ive heard that you will have to trick the O2 sensor from displaying codes?

Basically i want my exhaust system to sound mean, and perform awesome.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

If you want a mean sounding exhaust then get a 3" exhaust and then for the real mean part install a cut-out. You can't get much meaner than that for your needs.

If you want it to sound mean, get a good exhaust. I hear the loudmouth is aggressive. Removing the cats will more than likely just make it sound raspy. You could also get a cutout. I just got mine in yesterday, and man it sounds mean. The cars should have sounded like this from the factory (it's also crazy loud).

Your trans am is a 95 so it will not throw any codes since the o2 sensors are before the cat and you have a 0BD1 computer. The 96 have the OBD2 computer and two more sensors after the cats so they will have codes. So you are okay to do what you want as long as you keep the two sensors up front.

An exhaust cutout is a piece of y-pipe you put in your exhaust right before or after your cat. I am not sure where most people but them but do a search on cutout's and many things will pop up. Anyways is just allow's you to unbolt a three wing nuts and gives you open exhaust. It is proven horsepower and is loud. It is also pretty cheap. Here is a simple on from jegs.

Here is a good site for exhaust systems and cutouts.

There are also electric cutouts for about $130 where you just push a button and it open or closes but I dont know where to get them but I am sure someone does. Also there are the kind where you just pull a cable and it pushes and closes like this one on ebay. Very nice for the price

These are great because you dont need a catback system since the exhaust will be exiting the cutout and not out the rear of the car. The cable and electric cutouts are convient since it is loud and with the push of a button or pull of a cable you can be a sleeper or be quiet for the cops!!. Any more questoins just ask.
I recemmend the electric one since it is a nice feature and it is bascially a catback for $130

loudmouth

or, just run open exhaust. Disconnect the pipe where they connect under the middle of the car. I ran mine like that for a few weeks. would still be doing it if it wasnt a PITA to keep the rest of the exhaust system from comming loose in the way i rigged it up

Go ahead and get some Longtubes and get true duals. It'll be well worth it. That is if thats in your price range.

Most people install the cut-out after the cat, because there is no room in front of the cat.
