exhaust question

hey guys, i ordered my flowmaster exhaust today. obviously i have not gotten it yet so the question im asking is, on the website it states the exhaust connects AFTER the CAT. well if im running NO CAT, how will i connect this without losing length? do i just get some straight pipe and weld it to the y pipe or something, then go from there. also i got my pacesetter longtubes today, i was very shocked at how crappy they look.they were all dusty and scratched up. i was disappointed, they almost look used. is that normal?? i bought the black painted set with emission controls from jegs. feedback would be nice
thank you

Are you running a offroad y-pipe? What Flowmaster did you get? American Thunder cat-back?

look at the input diameter for your "cat-back" and your output diameter for your y-pipe. Your cat-back may be a 2.5" or 2.75" and your y-pipe should be a 3"

My exhaust (2otl) is 3" so I'm running full 3" exhaust. When installing LTs/ORY we cut the I-pipe to length then my buddy welded up the flanges I wanted.

Another victim of Flowmaster propaganda.

Should have went with Hooker or Magnaflow.

If you are not running a cat then it will be hard to install your flowmaster cat back system. if you have a local shop close they should have some pieces of pipe just laying around they will probably give you.
I am a fan of the flowmaster even though i run Borla. I put an electric cutout on the borla system to tame it down in city limits. pricey but worth it!

The Flowmaster system is not stainless. I have one of their systems and I like the sound. It gets better as the muffler gets older. I can't tell you how many people have commented on how good the car sounds. I have had women I don't know come up to the car and tell me how good it sounds.

The one issue I have with them is fitment. The hangers have been in the wrong locations on BOTH systems I've had. The most recent system was terrible. I attempted to work with their customer service on the issue and got no where.....to be blunt....they have idiots on the engineering side. Yes, I'm bitter too. My Dad and I have had to rework the hangers to make it fit properly on the car.

Here is my thread on it.....

Flowmaster gets a bad rap on this site because it does not flow the most CFM of the 4th gen F-body catback systems. Anything that does not flow like a straight pipe on this site gets a bad name.

I got a 3" flowmaster catback with 3" slash cut tips on my car and it sounds bad as hell. Of course the system is every bit of 10 years old now and it sounds like a full on drag car now. I love it to death.
