Exhaust options

I'm looking to ditch my Borla at the end of this year. I need something that sounds good and unmistakeably V8ish. I would like true duals but I dont want something overly loud, yet its debateable if I'll go that way. I was looking at the Hooker system. Cheap and I hear good things about it. X-pipe into bullets, or Hooker? Any other suggestions are welcome.

True duals with an X-pipe is the best sound I've heard on an LT1 F-body(but kinda raw and very, very loud). And there is absolutely NO rasp without cats this way. Ironically, Borla with headers/no cats, is the worst.

If you use highflow cats, the GMMG, SLP 2OTL, and Hooker are all very deep/throaty sounding with the GMMG being the loudest and Hooker being the quietest(SLP 2OTL in between). They all have an unmistakeable V8 rumble.

I would like to go with an X-pipe but I dont think I can live with having that loud of a car just yet. Open headers is the best sound I've heard (at least on my car so far ). My cats are long gone and I'm looking for the deep rumble, good V8 tone without earsplitting noise that works well with an O/R y-pipe. I think the Hooker would be my best bet.

there are always ways to quiet down a true dual system, I.E. run real mufflers instead of bullets, run pipes over the rear and out the back, put cats on it or even just a bullet inline with a regular muffler...even how you angle the exit pipes makes a difference.

This is true. Duals, x-pipe, and bullets are really loud, just about as loud as open long tubes (not quite though). I'd go for some real mufflers, Flowmasters, B&B, Corsa, Spintech, whatever would quiet it down.
