exhaust flow = performance???

My dyno came out at over 400 rwhp last fall when It was done. Exhaust was a 4" Muflex into a Spintech 4" single outlet. Was extremely loud and my wife hated it (probably along with many of my neighbors) so I reluctantly and stupidly had it removed and a 3" system put in with an 80 series Flowmaster. Sound sucks and I am not happy at all. However, question is, will this have a noticable effect on my performance??? It seems to me that when I hit 4500 rpms it levels off when it used to keep producing power. Could it be the exhaust or is 3" going to give me enough flow and I need to look elsewhere??
Thanks for any help!!

the 80 series flowmaster is actually worse than the stock muffler for flow. So it's probably sucking up a lot of power off ya.

I had the 80 series at one time it did seem to block flow. Especially now that I have the magnaflow catback it feels like a completely different car. You might consider looking into the magnaflow it's just a perforated pipe going through muffler casing. You literally see through to the other side.

Stick a Borla in there instead.

Good flow and quiet enough that the wife might not "cut you off".

Hey man, I'm not trying to be an idiot, but perhaps you can do a search on the advanced forum for exhaust flow...those guys have been there done that and personally instead of throwing money away, I'd do a little research for parts as to where I'd like my car to be at. IMHO. Good luck with your quest.

A new guy telling someone to do a search. I love it! You must have been doing alot of reading before you signed on.

You could also consider installing an electric cutout, or even just a bolt off one. Then you could get the sound you're probably dying for, the performance, and be able to tame it for when you pull onto your street. www.dmhperformance.com makes electronic cutouts, and you can find the flowtech bolt off cutout many places, or probably get your local exhaust place to make you one.
