I have a 93 Z and right now I have no muffler with stock manifolds and cat. I was thinking about cutting off the cat because I hear it sounds meaner but I would like some opinions before I do anything.

 

it would sound alright..a little hollow....it will "pop" alot when you downshift I had long tubes no cats and an SLP loudmouth(with a gm847/pp heads) now THAT was loud.

 

It's gunna be loud, but since your still running through stock manifolds and out the rear of the car it shouldnt be too bad inside.

Headers and dumps or a cutout under the car would be crazy, along with any motor work like a cam.

 

I had that setup before. It will be louder but you don't get really loud until you get headers and a cutout. Even then its pretty managable depending on where the cutout is.

 

id do it... i gutted min with a cutout (ls1 though) was good, i wanted louder, but by no means will it be "holy sh*t, thats loud" from random people...

dunno about the hollowness, i loved the ls1 w/cutted cats/cutout

 

Yeah, it's going to be pretty damn loud. Do it.

 

I have the same setup as you...Stock manifold, stock cats and stock catback w/o the muffler....Sounds pretty good...I have people ask all the time what kind of exhaust I have on it, lol...I was thinking of gutting the cats as well, but I'm not so sure I'd want to draw so much attention to such a blatently illegal setup

 

Would it make any difference that I had a magnaflow catback on it when I took off the muffler?

 

Well, I would assume that it would flow better than mine as that should be 3 inch tubing vs. stock 2.5 inch...I should also be louder.
