Engine sounds...Knocking, what is it?
My 93 firehawk has developed a knock. Sounds like a hammer banging on metal esp at idle. My first thought was bearing but i still have good oil pressure. However I havent driven it more then a few miles. I am bringing it in for diagnosing on Thurs. In the meantime, does anyone have any sounds clips of different types of knocking/ticking noises?
I am particularly interested in bearing, lifter, and flexplate sounds. Thanks! |
Heres mine when it went

Its just the door to bigger things (and more debt)
Anyone else have anymore clips of various engine noises? I don't have sound here at work but ill listen when i get home. I am hoping to sleep better if i hear something that makes me think its NOT a bearing. |
My video shows mine making a high pitch sound of the bearing grinding on startup and then as oil flows it turns into just a knock. At first it sounds like a rocker, but after a few seconds it becomes clear its not.
I hope this isn't your sound. |

Mine doenst make any high pitch, but its kinda hard to tell because the car is loud. It just sounds like someone is hammering on metal. Did you have oil pressure at idle and at rev's when your car was knocking?
Pull the dipstick and see if there is glitter on it, mine was covered. |
I've had a strange knocking in my engine since I got it running, I haven't been able to diagnose it though.
Here's an undercar clip I took with my phone, not the best but you can still hear it. When the camera gets towards the rear of the engine (if you can tell) the knock changes to more of a ticking noise, that's the cracked flywheel sound :) http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...nderengine.flv I replaced the cracked flywheel and still have that damn knocking noise, I have no metal in the oil and oil pressure is 30-40psi at idle and 70psi going down the road. |
