Engine removal problems???
I have a 97 Z28 m6 and I have to pull the motor due to engine failure. I purchased the Happy Hooker and have done everything possible to get this engine out without luck. The Engine is separated from the Bell housing about 4 inches but will not go any further. I have everything disconnected and there is plenty of room for this engine to come out the problem seems as though it is stuck on the input shaft around the fork.
I'm mechanically inclined but this is my first engine removal - has anyone had the same problem? At this point I'm afraid to unbolt the trans if it's binding somehow on the shaft it doesn't need help from tranny unalignment. Any input would be apprciated. Thanks Tom |
Re: Engine removal problems???
The engine/transmission are supported at 3 points when installed in the car - the 2 motor mounts and the tranny mount. If you're trying to remove the engine with the tranny still in the car, the tranny would need to be supported. I've always removed the tranny and bell housing before pulling the engine.

Re: Engine removal problems???
I have supported the tranny. At this point to remove the tranny would still require the input shaft to slide out. What could keep them from coming apart?
Thanks |
Re: Engine removal problems???
sounds like if you began lifting it before sliding the trans out... you may have locked the input shaft into the rear main of the engine and thats why its not budging... i dont really know, never removed a motor, but i've dont a transmission twice and its a PITA to get it to line up or slide out sometimes....
