Engine Removal/Install Times???

I was wondering how long it took to remove the engine and then re-install it...or what a shop would usually charge to do it. I thought I was going to be able to have my buddy help me with it, but it doesn't look that good anymore. I have the new engine all ready to go in. So basically, it would be just pulling out the old engine and then putting in the new one. The new one has new water pump, opti, etc. I just need to be able to gauge the times the shops give me and what is feasable. Thanks!
JOHN

it took me 3.5 hours going out the bottom. That was my first and only time. Unfortunately it took a lot longer to get it back in. It was hard lifting the Kmember back up into the body even though i was using a Semi truck transmission jack.

I Have removed and replaced and Engine in 6 hours going from the bottom from start to finish. I had the other engine together and just had to swap wiring and sensors.

Yeah, that is all that needs to be done on mine too...the new engine is all together and needs to just be wired and sensored. So...~6 hrs. is good to go by. I just don't want someone telling me it will take 10hrs and have 3 people working on it. They should be able to do it a little faster with more hands on it...???

If you don't have a lift and/or air tools, it will take quite a bit more than 6 hours to do the swap. And yes, someone else's help will make things much easier although you can do it all by yourself if you can't find anyone.

Good point, I used a hoist to lift the body and I do have air tools so it helps.

I don't have the tools or the lift now, so that is why I'm gonna let a shop do it. They should know what they're doing, but I just didn't want them to tell me that it was going to take them an outragous amount of time if it was not a "long" job, especially if they know what they're doing. If it takes ~6hr's at ~$85 an hour then I would think in the neighborhood of $550-$750, is that about right or am I missing the boat?

Shops will definetely not quote you 6 hours. It'll probably be in the neigborhood of $1000.
I did it all by myself without any air tools, electricity or a lift, so it can be done if you have the time and space.

Here's a pic of my swap. It was tight too..

Well going out the top it took me about 10hr to get it out and 8 to get it back in and running. Thats with air tools and taking my time working on it in the evenings after work. I could probably do it in 1/3 less time now as that was my first time .

The shop I went to wanted $800 to take it out and put it back...Thats why I did it myself.

3 Hours out (through the top) and 2 hours going back in!

This was with myself and a buddy - we have done it a couple times.
