engine rebuild

Well my car has 110k on the clock and I plan on pulling it out in a few months and tearing it down. Now I am not so mechanically inclined myself but my father and brother are so we will be doing the labor ourselves. What EXACTLY is needed for a rebuild?
Pistons, rings????

Question 2 are there any companys that sell a reasonably priced rebuild kit.

Since I will have the engine out I also figure this is a good time for a cam and some headers and probably also some head work
thanks for the reply.

Does it need the rebuild or is it just something you're wanting to do? You may be able to reuse your pistons, rods and crank, but if there is a known problem with it and/or you know you wanna put better parts in it then you can get good rebuild kits from summit or jegs the rebuild kits come with pretty much everything you'll need...

how streetable are you wanting this thing? if its your daily driver get a cc305 cam with 1.6rr's (of course all the necessary parts for the cam, springs, seals etc) port the heads and maybe even the intake if you can get it done cheap. You'll definately wanna redo the exhaust...headers are must if you're getting a cam...I assume you've already got a catback...you may wanna get rid of your cats or get hi flows

are there any current problems with the motor?

nope its just getting old and I am wanting to sort of freshen it up plus it will be real easy to chang the plugs/wires/opti and put headers on with the engine out
The car needs to be slightly streatable, as in maybe 30 mile round trips at the most. I have 2 daily drivers so the car is driven about once a week.

I am planning on starting this around october since the car does not get driven in winter and october is about borderline snowing here in Michigan. I will have all winter to complete this but want to start preparing now.

That should be fairly easy, make sure you buy forged parts. They're more expensive but its cheaper to do it right the first time and ONE time then to burn up a piston or two spraying it...cc305 cam with head work and 1.6 rr's complete exhaust will get you 12s EASY.

IMHO you dont need a forged crank. I don't think that these cranks will be stressed only running 11s or even 10s for that matter. Get a set of forged Eagle rods and Forged Diamond pistons and you should be set. That is plenty of bottom end to make 500rwhp.

Put the rest of the money in heads or a splayed 4bolt main conversion.
