Exclamation Egr Pintle!?!?!?!?!

Should the little pintle inside the egr stick out of the egr when closed all the way. My OEM one doesnt come all the way out and I am thinking it isnt closing all the way. And how much does it really matter if it isnt quite closing, does it matter if it leaks just a little bit? My pintle is about 1/8 inch from sticking out of the hole.

Mine was recessed. I don't seem to have any problems with it.

CRAP!! I was hoping you or someone would say "Yes, mine comes out all the way and that is definitely your problem, so fix that and everything is ok." I guess I will keep searching for what makes the rough idle. But I also got a code 32 thrown, so I cant really eliminate the egr can I??? It holds vacuum so its not the diaphram. Last night I was cleaning it with carb cleaner and when I would pour carb cleaner into the hole with the pintle, it would drain into that other hole. If things were working properly shouldnt that pintle hole be sealed and not let things drain by in into the other passage.

Try opening the valve by pressing on the diaphragm and then scraping all the crud from around the pintle. Maybe there is some junk caught up in there.

Ok, I will have to try that, but am I right in saying that there shouldnt be any flow between the two passages when the valve is pushed shut. I guess I am wondering if there is supposed to be a positive seal, or just a "close enough" seal in there??

haha, there should be NO flow at all thru the pintle. U should be able to blow throw the exhaust end and absolutely NO AIR should pass thru the pintle. If it does not want to seat all the way I would replace it or if you dont wanna spend the money, clean the **** out of it with carb cleaner and ice pick. a slightly open EGR valve will cause a vacuum leak = code 32 = affecting engine performance.

I believe the seat unscrews on EGR valve, makes it easier to clean it.[not 100% sure it's been a year or so since I did that]
I ended up having to get a new one.
A cleaning didn't cure the SES[intermittant]
Yes it should seal, not leak.

Yeah, it does look like it unscrews (there are some wrench flats on the sides). I tried to unscrew mine when it was out and it did not want to break free. Since I was not having any trouble with it, I did not pursue it any further.

It also reduces combustion temperatures and decreases the chance of detonation.

Well hey, thanks everyone for your input. I have a new one on the way from autozone. I took it all apart and cleaned it the best I could but it still wont seal. And as far as the egr deletion goes, I think I will go with Shoebox and if he says to leave it on, then I will leave it on. Seems like he knows his stuff.
