E Cutout worth it?

Hey I was wondering if a electric cutout would be worth the money spent performance wise on my car? Right now Im running jet hots, hooker y pipe, and a full magnaflow catback. I dont really wanna put down 200+ bucks on something that will give me a couple hp. Let me know your opinions.

If I were you I wouldnt, but hey each to his own. I am not impressed with what I see from cutouts, especially since you already have a highflow catback. I think youll see better gains from the Procharger in your sig or a CAI.

I think the ati counts as a cold air intake.

Well I wasnt sure whether you were still using it or not since you seem to be selling some of it, and you didnt include it in your post. Yea, I wish I had that CAI over my Lingenfelter one

Re: E Cutout worth it?

I did mine for two reasons.

First is that I need to be fairly quiet where I live, and I have never liked being quiet. Some people are all about sleepers, and I respect that, but I like making my presence known. Touch a button and my 2 three inch cutouts open up, allowing me the sound of open headers with about a one foot pipe connected to them then the exhaust is angled towards the sides of the car. Sounds really sweet with a big cam.

The second is because I didnt want to go true duals, I have never like the clearence that most have. I have jethot long tubes going into a custom 3 inch y pipe that joins in to the factory catback pipe routing. Never have I heard a clunk, clank, scrape, etc. And I can have "True Duals" anytime I want with a flip of a switch.

Granted I only paid about 200 all together for my 2 E-Cutouts.

Re: E Cutout worth it?

i dony have the mods you have but,

Well i never actually compared my runs at the track with the cutout open / closed, since i got my ecutout ive ran it open at the track every time.
Some people say that the cutout on a car like mine will not gain anything.

i guess it all depends on the person, but me personally, its my favorite mod on my car next to the headers of corse.

Im doing them for the power at the flip of a switch, and the look on peoples faces.

Pull up next to a ricer or something at a stoplight, they rev at you. Flip your E-cutout open and throw one back. Their jaw will drop.

Re: E Cutout worth it?

Its not the question of the $200 being worth it, its the question of the $30 cutout being worth it. Chances are yes. The other $170 is for the convienence(sp) of not having to get under the car, but to just flip a switch

Re: E Cutout worth it?

I never got why a cutout is louder than a high-flow cat-back because the cat-back exits out into the open air and the cutout just dumps under the car. Is the cutout under the car still louder to other people? I'm confused

Re: E Cutout worth it?

I am not sure why I got mine, probably since I had money in my bank and was looking to buy something for my car. I got hooker LT's +Borla+DMH e-cutout and a gutted cat, recently I put a bullet on to quite it down. If I open the cutout, my car is basically running staight pipe exhaust, and its loud, obnoxiously loud. And I loose hp by opening it. It is a very easy to install piece, but trust me, after a couple weeks of playing with it, you will forget you have it

Cat-backs are mufflers that are usually designed to quiet sound down to be street legal.
I bought a regular non-e cutout for about 30$. I then got it installed for like 40$. I haven't heard it from outside the car but from inside, it makes my whole car shake its that loud. I have corsa which is a pretty efficient catback and i still went with one of these. I've left it open for a few weeks and was just careful about where i made a lot of noise. Its a great thing because i can go from obnoxiously loud and getting the attention of around anyone near me to my deep sounding, little quieter exhaust in 30 seconds. I don't think i will get the electronics, it just doesnt seem worth it for me but a lot of people like them.

Re: E Cutout worth it?

But I would still think running straight pipes rather than a muffler would be louder. Is the cutout louder because it has less exhaust tubing to run through?

Re: E Cutout worth it?

it is louder because it is unmuffled, thats it. Straight pipe means no muffling at all on the exhaust. Straight pipe would be probably exactly the same as cutout.

Re: E Cutout worth it?

There was a dyno test performed awhile back from CaptainSS. The test was performed with a Magnaflow Catback and a Cutout. The results showed +0.7rwhp with the cutout open versus closed. Basically, with the Magnaflow Catback, the cutout will not help since the Magnaflow Catback flows that damn good

Looks like im not getting one.

Re: E Cutout worth it?

I get about .2 in the 1/4 and 2.5 mph when i open mine at the track!

Here is my exhaust system! Hooker shorties, hooker y-pipe, DHM electric cutout right where the pipe comes together, then hooker catback!
