Dynamat inside valve covers... hear me out, I'm not stupid =)

Would that work because we LT1ers have such a limited valve cover aftermarket unless we relocate the alternator. I think using dynamat extreme inside the valve cover would work quite well actually.

I got this from dynamat's website:

Dynamat Xtreme conforms and fuses easily to sheet metal and other hard substrates. Material performance is optimized for temperature ranges between 14°F and 140°F (-10°C to +60°C). Material can withstand temperature extremes between -65°F and +300°F (-54°C to +149°C) and is highly resistant to aging.

I'm sure oil won't get hot enough to do anything. What do you guys think? If you think this is outrageous, say it's outrageous don't be an *******

You trying to quite down RRs?

Why not use the lt4 covers?

There is a strong possiblility of clearance issues.

What temp does your motor run at? Mine runs at 170 which is about as cool as it gets so therefore i'm thinking your pushing that 140*F since the valvecovers are bolted to the heads.

I wouldn't want my oil touching that stuff, who knows if it would start to dissolve over time or something.

my reaction, yeah, pretty outrageous

I would just worry about the material flaking or falling off.

Coolant reaches 200-220*, and oil gets hotter. I wouldn't do it.

Dal has not been at Lambert for years. He works at http://vandevere.com/ 877-448-5451 .

Oh, and I wouldn't even think about putting anything like that inside the valve covers.

I got a set of the LT4 composite valve covers, they did quiet down my roller rockers a bit, plus they look sweet. I really dont think adding sound deadening material under the valve covers is a good idea either. Hot oil splashing around on them over time probably would start to break them down. Putting it on over the valve covers would probably work ok to quiet them down, but of course that would look like ***.

Yeah I think that it is pushing the idea of Possibility. Cool Idea to begin with though, somebody had to think of it first.

Ahhhh I don't even like Dynamat for what it is intended to be- vibration absorper for audio installs. I use a roller and heat gun at work to apply it when I have to, and once it gets really hot it begins to stretch and almost looks like it's about to drip. If you're gonna do anything put it on the outside of the covers, but as has been pointed out, that will look like ****.

If noise were that big a concern I would advise selling the self aligning rockers that are so noisy and getting non self aligning roller rockers. (that is if that is what you're trying to sound deaden) If your stock is soo noisy that you want to do this then somethings up.

My SA's are barely even noticeable over stock. Since you have to pull the studs to put the guide plates on it's an excuse to go with the bigger studs too.

Personally, I would much rather fix a problem than mask it, especially with such a questionable method as you have devised. With the non SA rr's they are quiet without hiding any noise and if I do get additional noise I know that something came out of adjustment. If I were too simply mask that noise I may not catch a problem before it's too late.

Whoops, sorry i didn't mean to spread misinformation. I just grabbed the easiest info off of google last night in my insomnia.

They say 'plastic' or as some people would like to say 'composite' so they are the LT4 version. but fit both variations. I'm pretty certain shoebox would have corrected that too if it was wrong.
