Drag racin strip job
Drag racin strip job
Ok, I've got a '96 Camaro LT1 m6 that I just bought for the motor and tranny. Turns out that this car is really in Great shape for a wrecked car. It really only needs a quarter panel(or hammer work), a door, a hood and a nose. The car is altogether great and I can't see parting the whole car just for motor and tranny. SO,, I'm gonna drag race this one and save my Formula for the transportation.
1. What all should/could be stripped?
2. What belt do I use after I remove the air conditioner pump?
3. Any tips at all on anything about single purpose unopened/bolt-on only motor vehicle?
4. Air bags removal?
5. Heater and air box removal?
Thanks, Darrell

Re: Drag racin strip job
You can't just remove the a/c and put a shorter belt on due to the belts routing. If you want to remove the a/c you will either need an a/c delete pulley or you can delete the PS at the same time and place the alternator in the lower right side of the engine. There are aftermarket brackets available for this and it will clear the engine bay up a bit.

i used to have an excell spreadsheet that had things and their weights. it was from this website...but my machine broke down and i dont have it any more
you can definitely strip the interior and add race seats. VFN fiberglass has a fiberglass dash you can use to shave about 60 lbs. someone on here routed the window and lock wires to the center consol area shaving a few pounds, but he has aluminum door pannels now. cutting bolts extra ends will shave tons of weight. lexan glass for the hatch. (VFN also has a race only FG hatch). the interior could be drilled with a large bit or hole saw (where there are pannels on the other side and it doesnt go through the car. CF hood and hatch, fenders, and spoiler. remove all wiring that's not being used...like stereo and hatch release...antenna, auxiliary lighting, interior light bulbs and wires like the dome light. aluminum PHR, LCA, BMR k-member and front control arms...light weight wheels, gun drilled axles...drilled rotors (i'd only use them for racing because they're known to crack on the street.)
