Exclamation Do LS1-style lifter trays work in the LT1?

GM has released a LS1-style lifter tray for the SBC:

Description
This will cut your camshaft swap time considerably. The way this “Quick Cam” lifter guide works is it holds just enough friction to make it possible to remove the camshaft without having to remove the intake or lifters. All you have to do is back the rocker arms off and spin the camshaft one full rotation to push the lifters up out of the way. Then slide the camshaft out.

Services one cylinder head
So my question obivously is... does this work for LT1's as well?

Anyone have any experience with this? Sounds like a nice addition to an engine rebuild... cam swaps without touching the intake!

Anyone know for sure?

Those will since they have a place to be held in. Stock LS1 units will not.

Thumbs up

Awesome... GM part number: 88958652
GM Parts Direct has them for $10.92 each (2 needed):

Valve lifter guide, "quick cam"
This composite lifter guide is the same as used on LS Series GM small-blocks, but with mounting holes for use on Gen 1 GM small-blocks. For use with hydraulic roller lifters only. The design of the lifter guide makes it possible to remove the camshaft without removing the intake and lifters. There is just enough friction in the guide to hold the lifters in place if the rocker arms are backed off and the camshaft is rotated two full revolutions to push up the lifters. Package services one cylinder head.

Any detrimental issues here? Souldn't cause any issues with high RPM operation? Just checking

Looks like I'll be giving Dal another call for the stroker build.

So, if the regular retainer is called a spider, is that thing a daddy long legs? Interesting concept, though I would really hate for a lifter to fall down after I removed the cam.

I suppose you could use the pen magnet trick like the LS1 guys do. My concern with these things would be that after thousands of miles of time on the motor, they're not going to hold the lifters up very well at all.

Pretty sweet, I'll have to look into that next time my intake is off.
