Lightbulb Do I need to rebalance if I change from SCAT to ARP rod bolts?

I had my rotating assembly balanced before I even thought about this.

I've got SCAT 4340 forged I-beams with the SCAT rod bolts, and I was wanting to put ARP bolts in it. Is it going to make that much of a difference? Or should the bolts weigh about the same?

Arp bolts are stonger but if you change the Rod bolts you will have to have them checked and maybe resized as the caps do move a little after the new bolts are installed.

How good are the SCAT 2001 cap screw rod bolts?

Since they mention using ARP lube, do you think that ARP might make the bolts for them [Scat]?

Phil @ AI said ~425 to the wheels...maybe some nitrous in the way distant future. I've got a lot of money into this, I just don't want to make any mistakes.

I don't know if ARP makes SCAT's bolts or not...we could speculate, but that doesn't give us an answer.

My machinist said he'd resize rods for $10 ea.

Are the rods good enough as they are? Or should I get 'em shot-peened too...

I guess it comes down to how much money you want to invest into them. You can never make a Rod to strong. I bought the H beam Eagles and they had the ARP Bolts in them. But I am running a stroked, supercharged and NOS. Scats are decent rods but if you want to be safe ( Dont know how much NOS you intend to spray) get the ARP bolts installed in them. I wouldnt worry about shot peening them as the quality of the Rod is good. Its not the Rod That usually gives first, Its usually the bolts.

No, but maybe you could call and ask them.

Yeah I could do that. I bet they're closed right now though hehe.

If this is the case, that I'm better off with ARP, then I will maybe just sell these rods, no wait damnit, see if I do that then I have to pay anyways to get everything rebalanced.

I was thinking I could sell these ones as they are, and buy the ones that have ARP bolts already, because this way, I'm going to be paying $80 to resize + $40 for a set of Wave-Loc rod bolts, so another $120.

Might be cheaper for me to just buy them with the ARP bolts in them already. I can't find the SCAT pricelist.

Here's my rods here:

Cap Screws. Maybe they're fine then with these bolts?

OK now I'm even more confused.

http://www.scatcrankshafts.com/forge...eamrods02.html

4340 Forged I-Beam Rods With Cap Screw Rod Bolts
2-ICR6000 350 Chevy - (6.000" x 2.100") (bushed)
2-ICR6000-2000 350 Chevy - (6.000" x 2.000") (bushed)
2-ICR6000-2100 350 Chevy - (6.000" x 2.100") (bushed)

4130 Forged I-Beam Rods With ARP WaveLoc(TM) Rod Bolts
3-ICR6000 350 Chevy - (6.000" x 2.100") (Bushed)
3-ICR6000P 350 Chevy - (6.000" x 2.100") (press pin)

My rods are in bold.

According to their price guide:

---Part #---------PIN------------Jobber-------Racer
WITH ARP WAVE-LOC BOLTS
3-ICR6000-----BUSHED--------$209--------$229

WITH DOWEL PIN CAP & 3/8" 210,000 TENSILE CAP SCREW
2-ICR6000-----BUSHED-----$260-------$289
2-ICR6000-2000 BUSHED-----$260--------$289

So, My rods with the Scat bolts cost more than the ones with the ARP bolts in them? Kind of confusing to me...You can see my part # right there.

I was told the SCAT bolts are made by Pioneer and are very good bolts.
