destroyed car/baby

Yup, so I just got home after a really bad accdient. This women ran a stop sign and rammed right into me and since my car's blue book value is something like 5500, I am royalled screwed.

I just have a couple questions about this insurence proccess.

Keep in mind, that the accident was totally the other persons fault and I was doing under the speedlimit and my lights were on (it was raining).

I have put a lot of money into this car. I have fixed up a lot.

I have... (all include labor)
New battery: $110 dollars with labor
Hooker Cat-back: $400 with labor
T-Top: $250
Starter: $500
Rear Axel: $350
Rear Bearings: $650
MSD Wires: $110
New Tire: $250
Two new rims: $500
K&N Filter: $45
Glove Compartment: $70
Regular Matinence: $100

Now, that all add's up to a lot of money and I was wondering if it is possible for me to get the insurence company to factor any of that stuff into it. I have all the receipts and all.

And as a side note, I am just curious to see how many people have the red striped interior on the cloth. My car has/had that yet, I have never seen another Camaro with it. Is it rare?

Thanks a lot guys and drive safely.

Todd

I had that happen to me as well with my old car. I was royally F43Ked...lost over 3K in mods due to blue book value. My attourney gave me the option of accepting the insurance claim on BB value or fighting out the disputed amount. But you have to have evidence of how much whaty ou had done cost..reciepts ETC.ETC. I was really pissed too cause I had a 3month old Brand NEw PAint Job on the car...

BB value on your Camaro was only 5,500? I thought it was like 10 or 9K for these cars?

Sorry, but you are going to lose all the money you put into it. If they total the car, they keep it and all the stuff on there and you get a check for the value of the car itself, not taking into account any additions or mods.

Considering that most of those are just normal maintenance or wear and tear items, you're not going to recoup any of it. You may get some back on the exhaust, if you're lucky. Are you sure it's going to be totaled out?? If they do total it, why don't you buy the remains back and part it out. You'll get your money and then some that way.

Oh yeah BTW....when my car was at the AutoPlace/Wreckage yard. I was allowed to take what I wanted off the car. After the Insurance company looked it over. THe problem was that the car was so ****ed up all the engine mods and stuff were destroyed. But oif you can get it off you can take it home.

Maybe the rules vary from state to state but I think I got clearance to do so from the Insurance company.

The insurance comp. only give so much $ for aftermarket and up keep... Like 250-500 dollars Your best bet is try and buy the car back from them most of the time they will let it go cheap.. Then sell the parts off the car... Hey maybe your neck hurts that will work also

I wouldn't give up on getting any money back on mods just yet. My 94 Z was totaled a little over a year ago and I had way more mods than you. At first the insurance company wanted to give me $5500. After providing them a list of my mods and what it would cost to replace them they gave me 50% value on the mods and I ended up with $10,000 minus the $1100 I paid to buy my car back from the insurance co. Then I stripped it and built my new 94Z. You might have to fight with them but it was worth it for me in the end.

I don't know if they give you replacement value (the going price of equal car) or what, but I'd strip all the "good stuff" before the insurance company picks it up. JMHO

What just happened to you happened to me 2 months ago. Do a search with my name and you will find a similar thread. I was ramed into, with totally not my fault, the police mandidn't even give me ticket. Was takento ER, got head injury. Airbags deployed...

Now about my car. I had allforged just rebuilt 355 ($1200), stage II heads ($1000), 3.73 rear with good stuff ($500), cc 306 cam kit ($600), and many other nonesential regular maitenance items. I made it celear to the insurance thatthey will pay for my mods. They agreed topay for engine and drive train mods. I got $5500 for the car and $3000 for mods, total $8500,which is not too bad. Be assertive, since it's not your fault and make sure insurance pays for everything. You could probably still part your car out and get couple $k's

Sorry to hear about the car I also have a flame red interior but I have no idea how rare it is. I have only seen a hand full of them at a couple car shows.

As far as the items on your list...the only things they MIGHT consider to be a "modification" would be the Hooker Cat-back, Rear Axle, Rear Bearings, and the rims, and typically an insurance company will let you take things like that off the car, IF you can replace them with the factory parts. After having a few cars totaled, I have learned to try and keep as many factor parts that I replaced lying around just in case....that way if I don't get another car like it, put the factory parts back on and sell the aftermarket parts!

theyre not going to give you a cent for repair/maintanence items required for the car to operate normally i.e. plugs/wires, battery. They will give you money for real "mods" if you have receipts. I got every cent for every mod i had on my old z28 when it was totalled.
