Dent in the oil pan
I'm in the middle of a header install at the moment. A good buddy and I just finished the mounts on Sat. Well, the previous weekend I tried to do the mounts myself...big mistake. However, its fixed, so I'm not worried about that.
The thing I'm worried about is that the first time I jacked up the motor, I used a soft-back cover book between the jack and the oil pan :(. I know, bad move. Now there is a small dent in the bottom of the sump. At its worst point, its not even 1/4" in depth (the dent that is). Should I be worried that I damaged the oil pump pickup or anything else? Or did I get very fortunate? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Dent in the oil pan
I wouldn't worry 'bout one that small.

Re: Dent in the oil pan
Is it touching the pump at all? If its really close to the pump it could affect how much oil it can suck in.

Re: Dent in the oil pan
I'm not sure if it is touching the pump or not, as I have not pulled the pan (and would prefer not to). How far is the pickup from the bottom of the sump usually?

Re: Dent in the oil pan
I wouldnt worry about it...your pump should not be in danger

Re: Dent in the oil pan
So, you guys think it should be ok? I'm told there's about 1/2-3/4" clearance between the bottom of the oil sump and the pickup for the oil pump. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks everyone, I'm breathing a little better now :)
